Lesson Plan

Arc length and sector area

Goals / Objectives

Solve for an arc length, a sector area, a central angle, or a radius from the others, with the angle in degrees or in radians, including multi-step problems

Calculate arc length using (theta/360) * 2pir (degrees) and s = r*theta (radians)

Calculate the area of a sector using (theta/360) * pi*r^2 (degrees) and A = (1/2)r^2theta (radians)

Convert an angle with pi radians = 180° when an arc or sector problem requires it

Standards

"Use definitions, properties, and theorems relating to circles and parts of circles such as radii, diameters, tangents, angles, arc lengths, and sector areas to solve problems." "Solve problems using either radian measure or trigonometric ratios in the unit circle." "Convert between angle measures in degrees and radians."
