Lesson Plan

Isosceles and equilateral triangle properties

Goals / Objectives

Solve for unknown angles and sides in isosceles and equilateral triangles, alone and inside larger figures, including when they are given as algebraic expressions

Apply the base angles theorem: if two sides of a triangle are equal, the angles opposite those sides are equal

Use the converse: if two angles of a triangle are equal, the sides opposite those angles are equal

Use the facts that an equilateral triangle has three 60° angles and three equal sides, each implying the other

Standards

"Use concepts and theorems relating to congruence and similarity of triangles to solve problems." "Know and directly apply relevant theorems such as the: • triangle angle sum theorem."
