Lesson Plan
Midpoint and distance in the coordinate plane
Goals / Objectives
Calculate the midpoint of a line segment using M = ((x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2)
Calculate the distance between two points using d = sqrt((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2)
Apply the midpoint formula to find a missing endpoint when one endpoint and the midpoint are known
Decide whether a point lies on a circle by comparing its distance from the center with the radius, and choose and combine the midpoint and distance formulas in one problem
Standards
"Complete the square in an equation representing a circle to determine properties of the circle when it is graphed in the xy-plane and use the distance formula in problems related to circles."
