What you'll learn

  1. Recognize when a double-angle or sum/difference formula applies, including inside a larger problem, and substitute into it to evaluate an expression
  2. Show with a numerical counterexample that $\sin(2x) \neq 2\sin(x)$ and $\sin(A+B) \neq \sin A + \sin B$
  3. Choose the correct double-angle formula for sine, cosine or tangent, or sum or difference formula for sine or cosine, from a list of candidates, using the sign behaviour that distinguishes the cosine formulas
  4. Evaluate an exact trig value at a non-landmark angle such as $75°$ by writing it as a sum or difference of two landmark angles
