ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Graphs of sin, cos, tan (amplitude, period, phase shift)
Goals / Objectives
Match the graph of a sine, cosine or tangent function with its equation: read the midline, amplitude, period and phase shift from the graph, and write or select the equation y = A sin(Bx + C) + D (or its cosine equivalent) that fits
Identify the base graphs of y = sin(x), y = cos(x), and y = tan(x) from their key points (intercepts, maxima, minima, asymptotes), and state each one's period, range and whether it has an amplitude
Identify amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift from the general form y = A sin(Bx + C) + D and its cosine form, and the period pi/|B| of y = tan(Bx)
Identify the graph of a transformed sinusoid from its equation by its midline, range, period and the position of a peak or upward midline crossing
