Lesson Plan

Creating and interpreting systems from word problems

Goals / Objectives

Solve a word problem with a system of two linear equations: define both variables with their units, create or identify the system that models the context, one equation per stated condition, solve it, and interpret both values to answer the question the context asks, with units

Recognize the count-and-value pattern across varied contexts

Model comparison and rate situations as systems

Identify which system models a situation without solving it

Standards

"Create and use a system of two linear equations in two variables to solve problems in a variety of contexts." "Identify or create a system of linear equations in two variables to model constraints or conditions on two quantities."
