"Identify or create a linear equation in one variable that represents a context."

What you'll learn

  1. Solve a word problem with a linear equation in one variable: define the variable with its unit, create or identify the equation that models the context, solve it, and answer the question the context asks, with units
  2. Identify the one-time amount and the repeated amount in a context and write the model fixed + rate × count = total
  3. Translate phrasings that do not map left to right onto symbols, including consecutive integers and a percent increase as a multiplier
  4. Decide whether an equation models a situation by reading its structure or testing a value, without solving it
