Lesson Plan
Number of solutions for systems
Goals / Objectives
Determine whether a system of two linear equations has exactly one solution, no solution or infinitely many, from its slopes and intercepts or from whether one equation is a multiple of the other
Connect each case to intersecting, parallel, or coincident lines
Read the outcome when elimination cancels both variables: a true statement or a false one
Find the value of a parameter for which a system has no solution or infinitely many solutions, using the constants to tell the two apart
Standards
"For a system of linear equations in two variables, determine the conditions under which the system has no solution, a unique solution, or infinitely many solutions." "Make connections between an algebraic representation and a graph of a system of linear equations in two variables not in context." "Make connections between an algebraic representation and a graph of a system of linear equations in two variables in a context."
