Lesson Plan

Similar triangles and proportional sides

Goals / Objectives

Determine whether two triangles are similar using Angle-Angle (AA) similarity

Find unknown side lengths of similar triangles from the correspondence, setting up the proportion that the similarity statement dictates

Apply the fact that a scale factor k multiplies every length by k and leaves every angle measure unchanged

Recognize and apply similarity in overlapping, nested, and parallel-line configurations

Standards

"Use concepts and theorems relating to congruence and similarity of triangles to solve problems." "Determine which statements may be required to prove certain relationships or to satisfy a given theorem." "Apply knowledge that changing by a scale factor of k changes all lengths by a factor of k, but angle measures remain unchanged."
