Lesson Plan
Triangle inequality theorem
Goals / Objectives
Decide whether three lengths can form a triangle, and find the range of possible lengths of a third side from the other two, using the triangle inequality theorem (the sum of any two sides is greater than the third)
Decide which given values can be the length of the third side, excluding the two boundary values
Count the integer lengths inside the range, and solve for x when the third side is an expression such as 2x + 1
Standards
"Know and directly apply relevant theorems such as the: • triangle angle sum theorem. • vertical angle theorem and the relationship of angles formed when a transversal cuts parallel lines."
