Lesson Plan

Using trig ratios to find missing sides and angles

Goals / Objectives

Find a missing side or angle of a right triangle with a trigonometric ratio, including in problems about angles of elevation and depression

Choose the ratio (sin, cos, or tan) from which sides are known and unknown, and set up and solve the equation for a missing side from a known angle

Use inverse trig functions (sin^(-1), cos^(-1), tan^(-1)) to find a missing angle given two sides

Draw and solve applied right triangle problems involving angles of elevation and depression, both measured from the horizontal

Standards

"Solve problems in a variety of contexts using: ... • right triangle trigonometry."
