Lesson Plan
Sampling methods and generalization
Goals / Objectives
Identify the population to which a result from a random sample can be extended, and explain why it extends no further
Decide from a description whether a sample was selected at random from the population the question is about
Explain how a convenience sample, a voluntary response sample or a sample from part of the population can give an estimate that is too high or too low, and why a larger sample of the same kind does not correct it
Standards
"With random samples, identify or describe which population the results can be extended to." "Understand issues related to sampling methods and why a result can be extended only to the population from which the sample was selected."
