Lesson Plan

Comparing linear functions across representations

Goals / Objectives

Compare two linear functions presented in different representations: which changes faster and which starts higher, from each function's rate of change and initial value, and which is greater at a given input, from their outputs there

Extract the rate of change and initial value from a rule, a table, or a graph, including a table with no input-0 row

Find the input at which two functions produce equal outputs

Determine which function is greater on each side of the crossing point

Answer a contextual comparison as a recommendation, not just a number

Standards

"Make connections between a table, an algebraic representation, or a graph of a linear function not in context." "Make connections between a table, an algebraic representation, or a graph of a linear function in context." "Create and use linear functions to solve problems in a variety of contexts." "Write the rule for a linear function given two input/output pairs or one input/output pair and the rate of change."
